Where do I go to buy a uniform and handbook?
You can purchase your son's uniform online or at a local Scout Shop.
Click here to find the phone number for you local council. Be sure to ask them where you can find the closest location to buy Scout uniforms. In some cities there are stores other than the council's Scout Shop that sell Scout uniforms and may be closer to you than the Scout Shop. Your local council will have that information.
Alternatively, you can order the uniform online at www.scoutstuff.org. Use the links in the following section to find each item.
(‘Experienced uniforms’ may often be secured from friends, neighbors, e-bay, or Thrift stores.)
What parts of the uniform do I need?
You will need the pants, shirt, belt and shoulder loops. There is also an optional patch, the World Scout Emblem, which may be purchased. All other patches will either be mailed to you before camp or given out at camp. (If we do give them out at camp, sewing will be one more skill your son will learn this summer!) For all of these, you will need the regular Boy Scout versions, not cub scout, venturing, etc. The uniform is only worn on weeknights at dinner, and not even every weeknight; we therefore do not feel it's necessary to purchase more than one uniform.
Pants: There are two options for pants. Both of them have the ability to convert to shorts by zipping off the bottoms of the legs. The switchbacks have built-in belts and therefore do not require you to purchase a belt. However, they are more expensive and some of our staff actually like the canvas ones better. You can choose whichever one you like better.

Shirt: You can purchase the long sleeve shirt or short sleeve shirt. Some people prefer the long sleeve shirt. We recommend the short sleeve shirt; it is more comfortable in the summer and less expensive. Again, it's your choice.

Belt: If you purchase the switchbacks pants you do not need to purchase a belt. (However, you still could purchase one because the switchbacks have extra belt loops and some boys like wearing this belt over the built-in one.)

World Scout Emblem (Optional): This patch is an optional part of the uniform. (It does look nice to have one extra patch on the shirt!) The other patches will either be mailed to you before camp or given out at camp.

The World Scout Emblem is worn centered horizontally over the left pocket and vertically between the left shoulder seam and the top of the pocket, as pictured here:
